Before working through upgrading your engine, make sure you adjust those valves!! We’ll add more engine modifications as we get them documented. If you’re looking for carburetor info, head over to the Fuel System page. CDI/Spark plug info cab be found on the Electrical page.
I’m a personal beleiver in .003 inch or .002 inch for intake and exhaust, but others may tell you differently. Regardless, these things come from the factory with NO CLEARANCE very often!
Tools needed: 10mn socket, 14mm socket, blade screwdriver, feeler gauges, (optional)valve adjustment tool
**DO THIS WHEN THE BIKE IS COLD**
Thanks Skyd Control for a great video
For trail riders and road riders, you’ll definitely want to adjust the front sprocket. The rear sprocket can wait until you ride enough on the road that you definitely need a higher top speed. This 17T has been used by multiple 2021 standard TBR7 owners and verified as good. You’ll want to verify you have a 428 chain before ordering this!. This will get you flirting with 60mph+ but still leave your low end torque. If you are a highway driver, you may want to later look into the rear sprocket also. Let’s be clear, if you are mostly interested in trail riding, or plan on going low speed trail riding much at all, then I would NOT do the rear sprocket and instead just stick to the front sprocket.
*Check your chain. The TBR7D and possibly some of the newest TBR7s are shipping with a 520 chain and 12T front which means you don’t’ want this sprocket!!*
Please only use a good quality oil with a wet clutch additive. Without that additive you will run into a lot of issues as the clutch on this bike is a wet clutch. Also, change the oil directly from the box (especially if you assemble yourself as the ship with shipping oil). Some dealers are replacing the oil themselves but the oil is cheap enough that I would still suggest putting in some quality oil even if you had dealer prep. We have had great luck with the Rotella T4. Amazon may not be the cheapest, so try calling around to your different autoparts stores such as Advance.
Clutch engagement not quite what it should be? Aftermarket springs are a great and simple upgrade. Do it during an oil change and it’s really only a few bolts to get to it all:
